ITANAGAR, Nov 10: Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Nabam Tuki has appreciated Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit's efforts for ensuring the safety of youths, especially students and working women, of the north eastern region staying in the national capital.
A special police cell for the safety and security of north eastern youth formed last year has greatly strengthened the security apparatus for the youth of the north eastern region in the National Capital Region, Tuki said while addressing the closing ceremony of the two day Northeast Festival at New Delhi yesterday.

ITANAGAR, Nov 10: The picturesque Tawang town today erupted in anger over acute power shortage prevailing in the district headquarter. With the onset of harsh winter, residents are battling for survival due to erratic power supply. To express displeasure, a massive public rally was held today which was organized by monks of Save Mon Region Federation (SMRF) popularly known as SMRF. The rally which started from Tawang monastery ended at old bazaar.
Thousands of people from far flung places of the district attended the protest rally.
Addressing the huge gathering, Lobsang Gyatso, general secretary of SMRF accused the power department of failing to give regular electricity in the district. He claimed that Tawang has been battling power crisis for the last many months. “Though there is power crisis, department is not taking any step to address the situation. Instead power department is ill treating poor citizen by indulging in unequal distribution. The VIPs get regular supply while poor are living in darkness,” claimed Lobsang Gyatso.
He also stressed the public to know their basic rights and appealed to the people of Tawang to fight for their rights. The SMRF also accused Border Road Organization (BRO) for not taking serious steps to improve the road conditions of Tawang district. They called for setting timeline, so that BRO speed up the construction work. Many gaon burahs of nearby villages also expressed their concern regarding erratic power supply and poor road condition. The public threatened to lock down the power stations if their demand for equal and continuous distribution of power is not met. Later on DC Tawang, SP and Zilla Parisad Chairperson appealed the public to maintain law and order while assuring that the administration has taken a serious note of power crisis, the SMRF claimed.
Prasar Bharati to launch separate TV channel for Arunachal and Sikkim

ITANAGAR, Nov 10: Prasar Bharati, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Jawahar Sircar said that a separate TV channel “Prabha” would be launched very soon specially for Arunachal Pradesh and Sikkim.
Addressing the staff of All India Radio (AIR) and Doordarshan Kendra (DDK), Itanagar in a city hotel here today, the CEO said that launching of the new channel would help promote rich art and culture of these two northeastern states. He urged the DDK staff to extend all support so that the proposed channel can be launched very soon.
Recalling the huge popularity of radio in the past, Sircar advised AIR staff to revive the past glory of radio by bringing innovation into programmes.

‘The tribes are being spoilt’ is a cry that has been and is often heard in the power corridors of New Delhi, ‘Cut off funds and let them try running their schools, hospitals and engineering services out of their own resources, only then will they understand how much they have to be grateful for’.
Keeping in mind the fact that ‘history should not be ignored, for if you forget the past, you are doomed to repeating it’, it has to be remembered that it was not NEFA (as Arunachal was called and known then) who took initiative in seeking and establishing contacts outside their habitat but it was the latter who, for purposes of industrial growth, strategic necessity or other considerations of self interest did initiate contacts that were neither initiated nor desired by the tribal people themselves.
Meaning to say that Arunachal Pradesh with all its numerous resources ranging from water and hydropower, rich and varied flora and fauna, the deep and dark timber forests, various mines and minerals and the untapped tourism potential, can still manage to have a self sufficient and self reliant economy without fully being dependent and administered like a medieval fiefdom of New Delhi based ‘high commands’.

To my mind, to achieve what we are dreaming about, we need a complete restructuring of the conventional policies and programmes designed, developed and propagated from New Delhi to cater to the national needs. Instances like mindless signing of numerous MoAs with the power developers without the prior and informed consent of the local dwellers with unseen kickbacks running into crores filling the coffers of the Phantoms living in New Delhi is nothing but broad daylight economic rape of a tribal state. No wonder it is New Delhi which decides who should be appointed the Chief Minister of a state when it comes to any national political parties.
These wrongs can be righted only if we resolve and pledge to build a home of our own form now on without frequenting New Delhi to seek ‘suggestions’ even to decide the right kind of materials for building a house! It is time to ponder how and why the Rio model of governance is so successful in the state of Nagaland. Neiphiu Rio is heading the Naga Peoples’ Front for the third successive term. The same is the case with Sikkim. Sikkim, for that matter, is economically far poorer in terms of resources than Arunachal; why then Pawan Kumar Chamling has been so successfully governing this tiny state for more than a decade? These are issues and questions that each and every legislator including the educated sections of the state ought to discuss and debate so that we could evolve a similar model for our state specific to our needs and aspirations. It is said that if we re not part of a solution, then we are the problems ourselves.
Like Nagaland and Sikkim, Arunachal too has its own historical, geographical, economic and demographic peculiarity. It is of vital importance to have a regional party at the helm to mould the future of the state in a secure, healthy and desired direction.

Rupa Chador of Upper Subansiri, Master Sourav Choudhory of Papum Pare and Jompi Lollen of West Siang district have won the first, second and third prizes respectively. They will represent Arunachal Pradesh in the North East level competition to be held at Indira Gandhi Park here on November 22 as a part of Sarhad Ko Swaranjali mega event.
The first, second and third position winners were awarded cash prizes or Rs. 20,000, Rs. 15,000 and Rs.10,000 sponsored by Subharti Medical College, Meerut, NGF College of Engineering and Technology and Jai Polytechnic, Ambala.

They say, construction of the school auditorium outside the school campus will not only create inconvenience to the school authority to look after it but also create problem in expansion of the PWD road in future.
While criticizing the officials of education department for allowing the contractors to construct the auditorium at an isolated place without consultation with the local people, Deniel Jamoh, a public leader of Yagrung, said that this type of irresponsibility by education department has caused great deal of dissatisfaction among the villagers.

Job dream is falling down
Dear Editor,
Through your esteemed daily, we would like to point out the shortcoming in providing training to various trainees who are undergoing training at different technical institution across the country, after getting selected through job Mela held at IG Park very recently by the state govt.
In order to get better employment avenues, the trainees who were mostly students studying in various institutions had left their academic career and joined the job mela for getting vocational training in different fields. But, now, it is revealed that only 75% placement facility will provided by those training institute after completion of the training successfully. Then my question is what will be the fate of rest 25% trainees who had already discontinued their studies hoping for 100% placement guarantee through the job mela.
Further, the trainee’s parents and guardians are not able to get touch with their wards as they are undergoing training in different institutions of the country which has no any branch in our state. The state govt should have given preference to those institutions for imparting training which has branches in our state so that the parents and guardians of the trainees could have easily got in touch with their wards.
The scheme is being implemented through Govt, of India funding scheme wherein all
sorts of provision for fooding, lodging, transportation facility and training course

Yupia deprived of basic facilities
Dear Editor,
Through the column of your esteemed daily, we on behalf of indigenous people of Papum Pare District, would like to draw the kind attention of the concerned Deputy Commissioner, Yupia and Govt, of Arunachal Pradesh about the need to set up SBI branch and ATM facilities at district headquarter, Yupia.
Papum Pare District was created in 22nd Sept. 1992 and it’s headquarter is Yupia. However till today it lacks basic facilities like SBI branch and ATM facilities.
The people of Yupia are facing lots of problems due to lack of modern facilities. It also badly affects those who comes from outside for official work. They have to go back Naharlagun for withdrawing or deposit of their money. The nearest SBI branch and ATM facilities available at Naharlagun is quite far and during emergency cases it becomes very problematic especially for the pedestrian.
Therefore, we request Deputy Commissioner, Yupia and Govt, of Arunachal Pradesh, to immediately intervene and establish SBI branch and ATM facilities at district headquarter, Yupia for greater interest of district as well as state.
